From the silly experiments department

I got an idea for an interesting experiment.

Attach one end of a long rope(200m ?) to a kayak and the other end to a bicycle. Put some dummy passenger into the kayak, who weights the same as the bicyclist. The experiment must take place somewhere with a road close to the water.

Now using a GPS see how fast the bicyclist can pull the kayak through the water. Afterwards check how fast the bicyclist can paddle the kayak over the same distance.

In other words, compare the effectiveness of “pedalling a kayak” with “paddling a kayak” – or leg muscles versus arm muscles.

The idea was inspired by the MirageDrive.

New roll

The guys at QajaqUSA are discussing a new roll variant – The Lurkers Roll. Good excuse for a new rolling session.

And at P.net there’s a new hydrodynamic thread going based on my Water resistance versus Velocity for some Seakayaks page. There’s seems to be a thread like that every week – which is why I like P.net. I could do without all the QCC 700 fanboyism though.
